A student lands a dream job at Scarlets alongside her studies

Over the years, many graphic design graduates from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) have gone on to successful design careers in sports. However, one of them got his dream job while studying…

Jac Elsey, currently studying BA (Hons) Graphic Design at Swansea College of Art UWTSD, recently secured employment with the Scarlets, a nationally renowned rugby team based in Llanelli.

Jac landed a job as a graphic designer for the Scarlets late last winter, midway through his second year at university, and since then he’s been able to use and apply what he’s learning. to a business close to his heart.

“I always aspired to have a job as a sports designer,” Jac says. “As a child I designed shirts for my favorite football club, Swansea City. So since being offered the job as a graphic designer for the Scarlets in February 2022, it’s been an absolute dream.

“Everyone at Parc y Scarlets is incredibly accommodating of my studies at UWTSD and eager to help me grow professionally. Designing bilingually for the Scarlets community has also given me the motivation to improve my skills in Welsh language.

Embedded in the course as part of graduate employability skills, all students are expected to work with clients. The university is delighted that Jac has gone beyond the requirements of his course to progress into a professional role within the company, allowing him to develop a rich portfolio of external projects with much more to come.

Trudy Waters, Head of Marketing and Technology at Scarlets, says: “Jac has been a great addition to the Parc y Scarlets team. Her drive and enthusiasm are contagious and her innovative work has given a new and dynamic feel to our social media and marketing campaigns, which is a testament to the course at UWTSD.

“As well as inside and outside the stadium, our website and social media channels, you can also see Jac’s designs throughout the region on our digital and static billboards.”

Donna Williams, BA Graphic Design Program Manager at UWTSD, says, “It’s good to know that Jac is having such a positive work experience with Parc y Scarlets and that local businesses are supporting young people in their dream jobs. Onwards and upwards in your final year Jac, and good luck to the Scarlets for this season!
