AT YOUR SIGHT | Fireworks: should they be allowed in town on public holidays? Or should the ban be more strictly enforced?

With July 4th approaching this weekend, you can be sure of one thing: fireworks.

Many love fireworks and consider them harmless fun. While it’s illegal to set off fireworks within city limits on both sides of the state border, it doesn’t seem to deter those who enjoy pyrotechnics.

However, others see fireworks as a threat. They argue that loud noise can affect people with certain medical conditions and traumatize pets. And they point out that fireworks pose a fire threat.

The sheer volume of fireworks on public holidays like July 4 and New Years Eve means police are struggling to enforce the law. Fireworks fans argue the police have better things to do and holiday fireworks should be legal or at least tolerated. But the enemies want the ban to be enforced.

We want to know what you think? Should cities allow fireworks for special holidays like July 4th and New Years Eve? Should they stay illegal within city limits? Should the police enforce the ban more strictly or should the penalties be increased?

Last week: policy or objective?

Last week’s question was about Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s announcement that the state would build a wall along the border with Mexico. Can Texas realistically fund and build a border wall? Should the state do it? Or is it just a politically motivated pipe dream?

Only if they put electricity in it. These people are just climbing the walls.

Abbott playing at his Trumpian base while placing more obstacles in the voting booth maze.

The US border is under US jurisdiction regardless of the state. It is nothing more than a political coup to appease the racists and the Taliban in Texas.

Build a wall to keep all future Democratic welfare recipients in their place

Should do something else with this money. The power grid would be a good start.

Abbott’s pimping.

This subject is very charged and political. Yes, there are things to be worked out. There is so much polarization about this that I think many overlook the underlying reasons many are trying to immigrate here. Our community has a significant number of families who would probably provide a much better context than I do for these underlying reasons. Hope before making any complaints or suggestions, we will try our best to understand, then find solutions.

In reality, they probably could fund it, BUT every time the government funds something, SO MUCH money is wasted in “education” and “administration” costs. For example, if $ 1 goes to the EBT program, how much of that $ 1 ends up being spent on food? So much is lost because of all the costs to administer it. All inefficiency increases costs. So I think they could theoretically afford it if they were efficient with it, but in fact they won’t be able to because of all the government waste and corruption with the tendering processes, kickbacks, etc.

They’ll just dig a tunnel underneath.

Have a friend who loses a child to fentanyl who likely crossed that border. Secure it now and not, unlike all “Talking Heads”. I am neither racist nor fanatic. I want anyone who wants to come here to be able to do so. I want the child / drug traffickers to stop dead. It is not a question of race. It is a matter of common sense / decency.

Great leaders stand behind our laws and our state of Texas. 1000% build a wall. Support Greg Abbott 1000%. Texas should impose a tax of $ 10.00 on every truck coming from Mexico. The wall will be paid. Call it Texas inspection fees.

I’m surprised Texas isn’t building a wall all around the state. Looks like they don’t like someone heading to ‘their state’. Nobody in nobody outside

Build the tamped wall. I’m tired of seeing more and more Mexicans in my daily travels. It’s a vicious circle. They come here, most of the time illegally, do housework with government assistance, find any kind of work they can get, get a check or cash, and send some of it back to their homes. family south of the border to fund the next group. They all seem to have cell phones, but less than 1% speak enough English to communicate with Americans.

Build the wall !! Texas can fight our own battles! Illegal immigration (emphasis on illegal) is a crime that has harmed our state for years!

Do you lock your doors at home? WHY?? However, you answer my question is your answer

Reliable power would help a lot more.

This is not a politically motivated chimera. It is necessary. Will it work? I hope in every way possible. It’s a crisis. This was dealt with when Trump was president. These are babies and children going through hell because of this open door policy. We should never leave thickets of illegals in our country! No other country allows this. It will be more damaging financially for border states if we allow this to continue.

It’s a politically motivated, unrealistic pipe dream to spend so much money on something that will never work when Texas doesn’t even take care of its own citizens.

No, let them come by the thousands, bringing their drug lords, pedophiles, etc. (Sarcasm.) And don’t say it doesn’t happen. Just talk to the Texas ranchers and see what kind of people are going through. Find out what weapons they have to keep agents from stopping them. Ask them if we need to finish the wall. And just keep your doors open at night, because after all, you don’t want to block anyone in, do you ??

The abbot must stand for the presidency.

Politically motivated. I believe Trump said he would build Mexico. This problem is not new. Why is it

Play at his Trumpian base. The useless wall is an environmental scourge and a symbol of failure, just like the Berlin Wall. We need highly motivated immigrants to counter our declining birth rate. Reform immigration policies. #DACA

It’s a political stunt from a guy who wants to be president.

Build the wall !!!

Why is Abbott focusing on a wall that will cost taxpayers billions when Texans need him to focus on the power grid. This is all a political coup to elect Republicans.

Build it!
