NHS wins contract for Cornish sleep services company

A Cornish-based sleep specialist is expanding into the Duchy and has been awarded a contract with the NHS to help children and young people in Devon with severe sleep difficulties.

Hunrosa Sleep Service, based in Liskeard, has already provided a sleep service to the patients of the Community Pediatric Team in Cornwall since 2018 and has been successful in solving the most difficult cases of insomnia in children where patients not only suffer from insomnia, but also disability, mental health problems and trauma.

The company’s sleep specialists will now work with the Devon Child and Adolescent Mental Health team and will include the Plymouth, Torbay and Exeter areas, with referrals initiated by a young person’s existing healthcare professional.

Meanwhile, the team will continue to provide services with the Cornwall NHS where they have completely addressed the sleep issues of around 90% of the patients with complex health needs referred to them.

The company’s contract with the Cornwall NHS has also been expanded to include work with the Child and Adolescent Mental Health team, wellness practitioners and key healthcare workers who have previously been integrated into the community pediatric team.

Jan Jenner, Director of the Hunrosa Sleep Service, said: “Our sleep service has proven to be a real success in Cornwall, and we are very happy that the Devon NHS has hired us to do the same across the county.

“We will provide specialized sleep support for children and young people in Devon who suffer from severe sleep disorders. These patients often face other health issues that can make their sleeping problems worse. “

“Providing services in Devon and expanding our work for the NHS in Cornwall will result in a fourfold increase in our business. This led us to hire four other experienced sleep practitioners to help us provide these services.

“Our first new member of our team, Claire Cox, based in Devon, is particularly adept at helping families with children with additional needs.

She added: “We will continue to provide services with the Cornwall NHS where we have completely addressed the sleep issues of approximately 90% of the patients with complex health needs referred to us.”

The impact of a lack of sleep is vast and research indicates that up to 60% of UK schoolchildren are sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation also includes immunity, after just five days of short sleep immunity levels drop by 50% and can worsen health conditions and even mimic some disabilities.

A spokesperson for Children and Family Health Devon said: “Getting a good night’s sleep is an extremely important part of our mental health and well-being and we are delighted to be able to offer this additional support and expertise to children and youth across the country. Devon. “
